Puppies basically don't shed much until they reach adulthood, but as their first spring towards adulthood approaches, they shed a lot of hair all over their body for 3-4 weeks on a consistent basis. This is normal and a process they must go through. Please brush your dog 1-2 times a week under normal circumstances, this will effectively prevent dead hair from falling out. And it will prevent the hair from tangling.
At Polar Paw Kennels we feeding all the puppies with Royal Cannin Size Health Nutrition™ Small Puppy Dry Dog Food with Royal Canin Size Health Nutrition™ Small Puppy Chunks in Gravy Pouch Dog Food; I strongly recommend you continue with brand for at least one months and slowly switch your puppy over to whichever dog food you prefer if done gradually. Sunflower oil or omega oil supplement is also recommended, it good for their coats and promotes digestive health. From when you bring your puppy home at eight weeks until they are four months old, it's best to feed them four meals a day. At four months, reduce this to three meals a day and when they turn six months, reduce to two meals. Continue a morning and evening meal for your puppy's life. We recommend spacing out meals evenly throughout the day. Remaining consistent will help get them into a routine, which will make life easier for you and them. We also recommend avoiding strenuous exercise after eating, which can lead to vomiting and potentially bloat. Please use bottled water for the first few months as the change in water may cause upset tummies, diarrhea or soft stools causing serious problems and gradually add 10% of yours every other day till your puppy is used to the change; same with the food if you desire to change.
At Polar Paw Kennels your puppy is used to going on paper/puppy pee pads in a small, enclosed area, with his/her bed/crate, food and water. When he/she first wakes up from naps, or in the morning, make sure your puppy has done his/her business, then take your puppy out of the playpen for playtime. As your puppy's bladder gets mature, it will get easier for him/her to hold it longer. Please watch for the typical sniffing the ground, turning and squatting, if you see this quickly say "NO!" sharply no pick him up and place back in his pen with his puppy pads OR outside where he/she should be doing his/her business at! With time and frequent practice, your puppy will quickly learn where is the appropriate place to pee and poop. Basic training should begin as soon as you bring your puppy home. Basic commands like sit, stay, and come, as well as housebreaking, should start early. Consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement are key to successful training. House-training involves establishing a routine, using positive reinforcement, and being patient. Take your puppy outside frequently, especially after meals, naps, and playtime, and reward them for doing their business outside.
